“Off Day” in Haiti

Kids photograph a beach area east of Jacmel

An all-too-willing subject poses for a photo for a student near the Dominican Republic border.

A street soccer game in downtown Jacmel before the lightless night sets in.

Jacmel residents ask for, and have, their photo taken.

I had a day away from earthquake related coverage and went out with photo students from Zanmi Lakay. These kids, if helped with the proper encouragement and support, could very well be a new breed of Haitian photographers able to show the world life as only they can document it. It was inspiring to watch them look, compose, wait and shoot, but lamentable to watch as batteries ran out with no fresh ones to be had.
