McCurry show, Harrington book, Col. Poole

by Allen Sullivan on October 13, 2009

One of my favorite photojournalists, Steve McCurry, has a shared gallery opening with Parish Kohanim this Thursday, Oct. 15 here in Atlanta. They will host a lecture on Friday. Info can be found on the Atlanta Celebrates Photography site here: http://festivalguide.acpinfo.org/listings/view/274

John Harrington (of whose site Photo Business News and Forum I should probably be a fan club president…) is in the second edition of his “Best Business Practices for Photographers” book. No one who licenses photography should be without the knowledge offered in this book. It should be required reading in photojournalism classes, being that, with journalism job prospects as dismal as they are, a great many students will be working for themselves after graduation. Those who value their work properly and conduct their business like a business have a better prospect of doing it long-term.

Completely unrelated to anything worthwhile, I think I’ll head to Ellijay soon under the guise of a swine flu investigation. There’s gotta be something lurking in the Pig Hill of Fame. If ample amounts of barbecue must be torn asunder and tossed a-gullet in the process, so be it.
